The work involves the supply, installation, and testing of a stainless-steel pipeline for transporting Argon from the surface to the Central Utility Cavern as part of the DUNE experiment.
As part of the DUNE experiment, approximately 40,000 metric tons of Argon is required to be transported from the surface to the Central Utility Cavern (CUC) at the 4850 Level. This Argon will arrive at the Ross Shaft Argon Receiving station in liquid form where it will be stored in tanks. It will then be converted to the gaseous phase, where it will be transported underground through a stainless-steel pipeline. This pipeline will be 8” diameter Schedule 10 between the Argon Receiving Facility and the Ross shaft, 6” diameter schedule 10 from Ross shaft collar to the 4850 Level, then return to 8” diameter schedule 10 from the Ross shaft to the CUC.
