Description

Problem Statement: NNL is interested in developing cation exchange media with enhanced performance characteristics. Traditional cation-anion mixed bed organic resins have an operating temperature range limited by the anion resin thermal stability limit of 140°F. To complement development of high-temperature anion media, NNL is seeking a cation media that meets the following

requirements: Improved thermal stability to enable normal operating temperature ≥ 250°F at saturation pressure or above; Total mixed bed ion exchange capacity >0.8 milliequivalents per milliliter; Low solubility in dilute alkaline solution at elevated temperature. Prospective offerings should include a description of the changes to typical media (organic resin) properties (e.g. chemistry, structure) or of new media materials that would meet the

requirements above. The selected materials will be tested for cation exchange capacity, solubility, and physical integrity at varying temperatures and durations.
